play on 1920 x 1080. wen i first got my monitor i thought it was hugeeee compared to my 15inch i had before. now my 24inch doesnt seem that big any more 
Anyone here game at 1920x1080?

I'm still at 1680x1050, as a) I've had this monitor for 4+ years and it's still working sufficiently, b) my budget's tight now and, c) the res allows me to max out most new titles with just mid-range(ish) hardware.
When I do upgrade, which will probably be in another year or two, 30" should be it. Must admit, part of me
at the thought of having that, but I'll wait.

Almost all games are programmed like that.
The alternative in which some developers program their games is to leave black bars on 16:10 monitors.
16:9 > 16:10
