Anyone here good with electrics?

2amp? I doubt you'd be able to run a deskfan without the lights dimming!

What is this 2 amp 500 watt socket connected to? As that is a rather strange specification.
God knows,

its at an event and this is the spec of the electrical connection they have given us.

Socket Outlet 2Amp (500 Watt)

Don't think you will be able to run any of those things off that, mainly because all your transformers are designed for 230-240v. It's probably a special generator they have, but with 2 amps it isn't nearly enough to power the TV's.

Will any of these work?

Socket Outlet 2Amp (500 Watt) £65.90 £79.08 SK2 Socket Outlet 5Amp (1000 Watt) £85.95 £103.14 SK3 Socket Outlet 10Amp (2000 Watt) £114.75 £137.70 SK4 Socket Outlet 13Amp (3000 Watt) £144.20 £173.04

Look at the cost!!!

What a con!

edit - what is 2 amps good for anyway?

Put it this way a laptop is about 19V at 4.2 amps.
19" lcd is 1.4 amps

why the hell do they cost so much? what is it connected to?
It can't just be a socket. Or is that a generator and they are giving the socket ratings?

Look on the back of your equipment, as long as it isn't ancient it should have voltage input and max amps.

The last one is the same as a socket in your house, and is therefore most likely going to work, but you should check first with whoever is providing this stuff.

It's connected to the mains funnily enough, in an exhibition hall.

It's not a generator or anything, it seems to be a moneymaking exercise.

The increasing use of fused socket outlets means that if you order a 500w socket, a socket with a 2 amp fuse will be installed.
If the socket is overloaded the fuse will blow. You will then be required to pay for the socket to be uprated according to exactly
the power that you are using. The socket will not be re-energised until the problem with the overload has been rectified and if
appropriate, you have signed and paid for the appropriate uprate. This can cause delays in getting power available to your
stand again and almost always causes annoyance to the exhibitors located next to you.

Can I change the fuse myself and save £100?

Waaait wait wait.

I assume everything has a standard mains plug, so they're running off 230-240V AC?

How big are the LCD TVs?

Let's just add up the power req's for all these...

Say the tellies are 32", looking up a random one online says it pulls 180W.
Then four bulbs, as you say, 60W each.
One Wii, which apparently draws 18W when in use.

Tot that up and you get 2*(180) + 4*(60) + 18 = 618W. Too much.

And just to prove it, Power (W) = Voltage (V) * Current (A)
So Current (A) = Power (W) / Voltage (V) = 618/235 = 2.6A. Too much.

2 Amps is actually quite a lot, you know. Not in terms of kettles or microwaves - but then they /do/ take a lot of power to do what they do.

Depending on the size of the TVs, and if you swap out the incandescent bulbs for energy-saving ones, you'll probably be fine.

Your almost certainly looking at the output current, ie once the voltage has been dropped to something like 19v or 12v. The input current at 230v will be far lower since power is voltage x current and the SMPS's those devices use are relatively efficient. The laptop supply will have an input current around 0.6A for 230v.

The 500W is roughly 230v x 2A, its actually 460W but no doubt will take 500W if it says so. How big are the LCD TV's? They likely won't use more than 50W each, it will say on the back (even big old CRTs only use about 100W). The Wii uses very little. You should be fine to be honest but check the ratings and add up the watts to be sure!

To calculate what I need, do I need to go around adding up the wattage of my items I am wishing to plug in using the details on the item?
