I've come across quite a few construction jobs (trainee positions, basic site work, loading/unloading vans, etc.) that require you to possess a a CSCS card. Does anyone here have one?

Just after some first hand advice, really. Which type of card did you apply for? How difficult was it to obtain the card? Which type of card do you think would be most useful/versatile?

Yes i have a gold card which proves im time served.

All depends what job you have as the Labourers on are firm just have the basic white card which is fine for getting on sites etc.

If you have any qualifications for the job your are trying to get CSCS trained for, you will get a card specificity for that type of job.

Test costs about 30-40 quid, multiple choice, most training centre places that every major town has should have them. Basic one 40 or so questions, retard easy.... mostly common.

Yeah i got one a few years ago... we had to for work, no CSCS no work on site!! The boss sorted most of it out. Its just health and saftey crap. nothing to worry about. Looking at the cards... its all changed a bit since i last did it.

Which card did you apply for (assuming you've got one)?

Thing is my firm automatically book the CSCS test every 5 years for me,so they do all the paperwork and organizing for me.

Like i said if you hold qualifications for a certain type of job you are applying for, if my memory serves my right i had to send my qualifications away for proof and then i turned up of the day for the test.

On the back of the card it will say you profession and qualifications.

What job/ trade are you?

The Very bottom white card is for basic labouring etc.

The Green card is also for Site labouring or general workers etc, this card has been added since ive had my card.

The Gold card is for apprenticeships and NVQs etc.

The Black is for site management ie: Site foreman,Contracts manager etc.

The Yellow card is for people visiting sites ie: clients, maybe architects, people who dont work on the site.

Its not really hard to work out what card you need, ive just written the above description and now realised if you click on more info by the cards it will give you a detailed description

Gold card here which my company organises every so often. Needed it for some sites and other sites I haven't required it. As far as the test goes, I'd imagine it would be next to impossible to fail.
There was one guy from another company who was over the moon when he passed, he couldn't believe it, he phone his mum to tell her the good news. he was probably in his 30's, was quite amusing. :)

I had to complete a health and safety test before I was allowed to do some painting for TFL. We spent a couple of hours watching a presentation and we were given a manual with everything we needed to know for the test. They even let us hang onto the manual during the test and some people still managed to get less than 100%.

I think I'll apply for a Green card. Thanks guys.
