I'm bored at work and whenever I get bored I end up doing one of 2 things; singing, or writing lyrics to my own songs..and then singing them (and playin guitar..but thats not at work../cries/), im by no means a good singer and have been compared to the bloke that sings that "London Underground" song so you all know how bad i sound now! :(

I really have a passion for punk/rock music, no matter what rock i listen to (heavy stuff like slipknot, trivium to pop punk like blink 182 and good charlotte) I always end up with songs that sound somthing like blink 182, less than jake and the offspring all put together, im not even that influenced by less than jake! or at least i didnt think i was!

Anyway, i guess im just bored and felt like posting, heh! (postcount+1) but does anybody else always seem to come up with one type of song even though you listen to a variety of different types of music? where do you get you inspiration to write songs? for me its mostly about life and experiences but lots of happy songs, songs about girls and a few ones from when ive been ****** off for some reason or another.

I write my own songs too, I haven't done many but I try to build my lyrics around the style of Matt Skiba from Alkaline Trio, he's my favorite lyricist. I write on things that are obvious; life experiences, things you notice (maybe things that other people don't notice). Along with writing the lyrics, I also write the guitar, bass and drum parts for my band (i'm the bass player and lead vocalist but I can play guitar aswell), as I have a real knack for music.
Here's a sample of my last song about the depressing state I was in about being alone:

[verse 1]
Sitting in another Saturday night
Burnt up my supper in a frozen gas oven
No one to talk to, nobody in sight
Ran up my phone bill to the invisible lover
Rushed to the window, heard two cries from
Cats fighting and dealers pushing their stuff
Eroded the rug, brain fried and drunk
It’s all too familiar, I’ve had enough
[chorus]
I’m torn apart like a jig-saw smashed to pieces
Fell to the floor just like before
Help me up, help me out, help me start again
Just like I helped you, in need of a friend

I wrote a song for Mohinder:

Life is dark,
My girlfriend left me,
Now I write poetry and listen to Fallout Boy,
Nobody understands why I grew my fringe,
One day it will be longer than yours,
Then you'll see,
You'll all see.

The reason you come up with Blink/Less Than Jake is because they're all generic simple chord patterns with no real thought. It really is far too easy to play/write these types of songs, hence we are unindated with them with these identical bands again and again and again and again and aga....
