Anyone live in the area ?

Move to Morecambe, you can't be serious? It's been listed as the worst town in the country, worse than hull.

The seafront is full of decrepit buildings, old flats from the 50's, a demolished theme park and retirement homes, the beach is atrocious. It's constantly raining, rarely reaches hospitable temperatures and is never sunny. There's also literally nothing to do within 50 miles of the place. Stay well away.

I use to live in lancaster, which is a couple of miles from morecambe, and then it was a run down area in the majority of places, with the odd estate that was well kept. There's a lot of travellers there at the moment more near heysham but they venture into morecambe and cause havoc. I wouldn't move there, in fact I think it's a case of more people are trying to move out of there. Unemployment is fairly high if i remember rightly too.

I quite like Morecambe as a place to visit - best view in the country on a clear day imo. Over the last few years there has been quite a lot of money spent on regenerating the town, sadly that's all been cancelled now but there is real improvement. One thing they really need to get rid of is that closed-down theme park though.

I know Morecambe does have a reputation for drugs though (as do most seaside towns). I'm sure there are good areas and bad.

There are nice bits of Morecambe, but the front and the west end are a bit nasty.

Hest Bank and Bare are very nice. For the worst place in the country to live the house prices definitely don't reflect that - distinctly not cheap.

Traffic totally writes it off as a place to live for me though, it's close to the M6 but can take forever to get there, through Carnforth to the north or though Lancaster to the south.

I went to uni in Lancaster and love the general area. As with all places, I am sure there are nice areas and not so nice areas.

I'm from Morecambe, it's okay. As previous posters have said it has its nice areas along with the rough.
I've travelled all over the country with my work, from inner city London (Night shifts in Tower Hamlets!!) to Invergordon in North West Scotland and it's always nice to come home.

As for the weather....its currently a balmy 18deg and sunny so to say "It's constantly raining, rarely reaches hospitable temperatures and is never sunny" is balls ;)

The seafront is slowly being re-generated ( although the theme park (Frontierland) has not been touched since it was demolished a few years ago).

Crime and drugs etc are no more an issue than anywhere else (and I live in the West End!!)

There's plenty of annual festivals etc on the prom (it was the Kite festival yesterday and the place was packed - search for it on google images).

Obviously there will always be nicer places to live but I love it here.

As for house prices, Lancaster is far more expensive than Morecambe due to the University (and all those students needing accommodation).

The travellers are present closer to Heysham but don't cause much trouble really.

Nice estates in Morecambe are Bare and Hest Bank but house prices reflect this.

Hope this helps

Morecambe is not so bad really. Keep away from the depths of the West End and anywhere with a proliferation of caravans in the outlying areas and the main residential areas are fine really.

The main problem is there isn't much in the way of well-paid employment in the area.

Traffic is a problem if you're looking to commute - it can take over an hour to cover the 4 miles to the M6 at times. The proposed M6 link road is much needed.

There's not a great deal to do in Morecambe itself, but it's close to Lancaster which is bit more lively and you're on the doorstep of the Lake District if you like your outdoor pursuits.
