I'll be looking to migrate our 2 ESX hosts to vSphere over the next month or so.

Just wanted to hear from anyone that has done this and what potential issues there are to think about

Vsphere client host update. Piece of ****. Have upgraded 20 dev/staging servers already.

Will be doing the live environment in a few months, not rushing because VDR is utterly crap right now and that's one of the main features we are looking to deploy.

Spot on on both counts.

The upgrade is pretty painless. Only issue we saw was having to run the upgrade twice on some of our ESXi hosts to get it to go to completion.

VDR is indeed a heap of guff at present - randomly fails, loses tasks, restores fail... Stick with VCB or scripting for now.

I'm in the process of doing it now but my SAN isnt on the compatibility list yet. Did the vCenter upgrade (well, migrated it onto a new host) and that was pretty straight forward.

There's a very comprehensive guide to doing it, its worth noting that the host update utility is not the recommended way of doing it for hosts in a cluster
