Howdy folks

i heard of a game called second life the other day, sounds a pretty serious game as it involves actual money, but anyone else heard of it? or play it? interested in starting it

Cheers :)

Heard of it yes, I think the cash only comes into it to speed things along, as far as I'm aware there is no need to spend cash it just gives you an advantage...provided I'm thinking of the right game

Its made up of all player made content aint it?

Looks intresting, but Im not really into that type of MMO. Sims 2 yes, MMO Life sim no.

Saw some good vids for it tho, it looks different :)

You can play it for free. Just need the money I think so you can have your own land and some other stuff.

I had a go at it a while ago. I found coding stuff quite hard it's similar to C. But you can potentially make anything. Community seemed pretty friendly but I just found it boring.

aint that one of those crazy asian mmo's that people have spent thousands of pounds worth of real money to buy things in.

too much...

errr no. youre probably thinking of entropia, but that one isnt asia either.

Seriously, i looked into this for the g/f to play on to stop her nagging at me playing EVE but it really is terrible!

Download it and give it a try as it is free but it is so bad you will delete it after 10 mins of playing!

Kinda fun flying around for a bit looking at stuff - but there really is little to do. Some adult content which is just funny for about 5min (when you find it) but it is pretty boring with nothing to do.

"Large islands are priced at US$5,000 for 262,144 square meters (about 64 acres), monthly land fees for maintenance are US$780."

Maintenance??? 'Jack, is the server still on? cool."

"A 22-year-old gamer has spent $26,500 (£13,700) on an island that exists only in a computer role-playing game (RPG)."

They're all freaking mad then :)

Sorry to bump this...

Apparently some woman has made $150,000 USD this year being a virtual estate agent

But I don't understand the game, or how it even works. I understand the principles behind people playing WoW, EVE or EQ - but the point of this "game" eludes me.

I pay for some land, then pay a "virtual" architech and builder to make it for me? Then I can either make, or pay someone to put virtual furniture in? Then what? Stand back and admire my virtual house?

According to the website, people "socialise" and "find ways to have fun" but I'm still struggling to see how

im geussing the 'fun' comes of it being a virtual chatroom with creative potential. I geuss it functions in a sense, living up to its title in a manner. A second life just as boring as the first life that caused you to crave a second one in the first place..... Perhaps boring people arent as hard to entertain.

/Coming soon, third life, the player created second life game where you can sit in your virtual house on your virtual island and blow cash to live on another.

i can imagine it now....

newplayer: ahhh so this is second life, where i can socialis freely devoid of all my real world insecurities now ive spent a years salary on an island, lets go find somone to chat to..Where is everyone (goes to look in nearby hut to see beary thin pale man hunched over computer)

2ndlife-leeter43: Sorry cant talk playing third life, helps me forget about my second life where iv'e developed just as many troubles as in my first life....whenever that was..

newplayer: .....right better sign up then....

it could happen
