They really ain't got a clue, gonna stop buying it

example this months issue reviewed the 5850 extreme

their words were

pro's (they called it bargain)

great dx11 performance for just over £110
effective custom cooler
quiet

con's (they called it basement)

Requires two 6 pin pci-e connectors <<<<< it's this i have the problem with, i mean c'mon what else is it gonna run off, a single molex, AA batteries.

Totally sick of their carp mag these days, sub cancelled and in the bin it goes.

Btw that was just one example from this months mag but their are plenty more showing of their total lack of knowledge and incompetence in testing.

Do you feel better for that?

I think the fact that they gave it 84% and said "if you're on a tight budget for a graphics card then you need look no further" sums it up fairly.

Yeah but why should it needing 2x 6 pin be a negative aspect of the review, there was really no need and only looked to be a page filler

I think the issues with the mag run a but deeper. I would like to subscribe but the articles are out of date before they're printed and prices quoted as just their sponsors prices not reflective of the real market. On top of that the advice is far better in this forum for "custom" pc builders. Seems a bit of a coffee table mag aimed at the uninitiated.

It requires 2X6 pin connectors as it was the second fastest single GPU ATI card on the market, it was over £200 when it was first released.

I took out the 3 issue subscription for £1, and have been basing my purchases on that magazine.

I will make sure I run everything by you guys first.

But, to be fair for to the magazine, it did convince me that I wanted to build a new PC.

I've been subscribing for a while now, and as mentioned above most of the stuff they have in it I've already read about on here. It keeps me entertained whilst I have a **** but there seems to be less and less that interests me in it.

When I first started out it was an excellent resource, but now I know a bit more there's not that much to keep more advanced builders interested. Need to look into cancelling really.

I think it is actually worth mentioning - that the GPU requires 2 x 6 pin, because traditionally, £100 GPUs don't need any more than 1 6-pin. It's only because it's EOL that it's been 'demoted' from the upper end to the mainstream category.

On the subject of CPC, I do get the occasional mag, but the thing that really narks me is the recent 'graphics card megatest.' They rated the GTX560Ti as better than the 6950, the GTX550 as better than the 6870 and the GTX590 as faster than the 6990. Basically, for GPUs, they go by the minimum FPS only for ranking (and don't mention the average FPS at all), so according to them, a card which manages 26 fps average, and never rises or drops is apparently better than a card which manages 60 fps average, but drops to 25 fps once in the bench.

i COMPLETELY agree with this, computer magazines are such a waste of money - much better coming on here! :p

I did used to buy this mag, but then stoped a couple of years ago when i bought a new pc. was thinking about having a look again as you can get the first few issues for about a pound. but not too sure now

It has gone rapidly downhill since they've had a new editor... I've noticed. I've been getting this mag since issue 2. I get narked off that some of their articles appear to be 2 months behind everyone else but that's not really their fault. Aggressive publishing/print deadlines are always against them. That said, I prefer a paper read for the train each day..

ive been a subscirber since issue 16, and although i have felt its gone downhill lately, its still a good read for me and for the sub price, a worthwhile toilet read :)

can someone also explain to me one thing, in the review of the zotac 560 amp they said

pros - faster stock speeds than a standard 560

but in cons they put - standard 560 only £15 more

am i reading it wrong or just being thick?

I leave the PC mags to the other people, as that's who they're designed for. Does this mag come with a "how to install ram" guide every issue? :D

Used to buy it, but now it is a magazine I pick up, flick through and put back.
I couldn't help but feel they were more biased towards their own personal choice of equipment when doing reviews. I do pretty much all of my product research online now and only ever pick magazines up if I see something interesting on the cover.

eXist' comment about it being a toilet read is so true.

They mean the GTX560 Ti - which has more shaders and stuff, whereas the GTX560 is basically a slightly refined GTX460 at higher clocks.
