Cause I just don't get it! I have been finding that my connection is not as fast as it once was. Basically I would like to know if this is good, bad or downright ugly:

Code:
Connection Speed 4928 kbps Down - 448 kbps Up
Line Attenuation 32 db - 8 db
Noise Margin 10 db - 24 db

This is taken from a Netgear DG834G router. I'm sure it used to connect somewhere closer to 7Mbps.

When I compare it to another router connected to a completely different exchange (my folk's house which is probably closer to their exchange) I get this:

Code:
Connection Speed 8128 kbps Down - 448 kbps Up
Line Attenuation 20 db - 4 db
Noise Margin 7 db - 24 db

Do you think the differences are anything to be concerned about, or does it look normal?

They're nearer to the exchange by about a third (you're ~3km of copper from the exchange, they're ~2km).

There's nothing massively wrong with either set of stats, but if you've lost 2Mbps there could be some issue somewhere. Tried your modem connected to the master socket, with no extensions (and filters)?

It should be closer to 8meg I get 4meg with 56db attenuation.

In what way is the noise margin an issue?

I have rewired the phone sockets and now I get the following:
Code:
Connection Speed 6112 kbps Down - 448 kbps Up
Line Attenuation 33 db - 8 db
Noise Margin 12 db - 25 db

When plugged directly into my master test socket I get this:

Code:
Connection Speed 6080 kbps Down - 448 kbps Up
Line Attenuation 33 db - 8 db
Noise Margin 12 db - 25 db

Almost exactly the same.

However check this out (at 2200 tonight):

I would guess eclipse is keeping my speed down intentionally. Grr!

The default target SNR margin is 6dB - anything above that and your connection is going to be slower than it could be (unless you're already at 8128kbps of course).
If your sync rate's been all over the place, it's possible your IP profile's dropped - check the BT Speedtester.

You could potentially squeeze a bit more out of that with lower snr on your downstream - 7mb sync with 6db snr maybe.

What package are you on with eclipse? I just signed up for home pro 24mb and sync 17mb getting approx that through on torrents too.

http speedtest run a little lower due to my prioritizing gaming and lowering http in my traffic profile

I am using dg834gt and setting my target snr in the router to achieve that sync though

I'm actually on one of the very old Eclipse packages "Evolution Option 1". I get this speed this morning:

I am using a dg834g but I do not understand what you mean by this. Are you running a different firmware?

Evo is an old product - call and ask for a trial on the a new traffic profile - no traffic management :D

Mines a different model with custom GT team firmware
