Anyone here use Astraweb Usenet?

Any packet sniffing would would be able to see what you are downloading using the normal one and it runs on the usual 119 news port.

SSL is secure and makes viewing the content much harder to nosy eyes!

Are you sure you enabling ssl in newsleecher and using the right port and server.

ssl-eu.astraweb.com Ports 443 or 563 (European)

Think so, its automatic in newsleecher to change the port. The server address part is interesting doozer, as it looks like there's a different one for SSL connections. Will check later..cheers.

I've noticed on the astraweb website it says "Connections - 20 Simultaneous Connections". Now in Newsbin it defaults to 2 connections, is it better that I chnage it to the maximum 20 connections?

I always use 20 connections just means if they are running abit slow you have enough connectioins running to sort it, in regards to newsleecher i have mine set

sercure.news.astraweb.com
port 563
server name = astra
Encrypted Server Connection SSL ticked
and the usual server requires login etc.

I probably find out i am not running ssl atm lol.

I want to thank you guys :D I was using Giganews from late 2007 until earlier this week...paying like the equivalent of £15-£20 a month for the unlimited account (Platinum)...then I heard about Astraweb, I signed up straight away when I saw the price, cancelled my Giganews account and havent looked back. Cheers :D
