Anyone here use Astraweb Usenet?

Anyone know if when you get charged by these on your card if you get the "overseas transaction fee" on top?

Hmm 120gb for $25, or unlimited for $11? Whut.

Depends on how much you're allowed to download a month (or how much you actually want to download). Personally I can get by with 40GB per month so the 120GB allowance lasts me 3 months which at $25 works out cheaper than paying $11 per month for 3 months. The 120GB option is basically for people that don't download much, say for example you only wanted to download 20GB per month, that $25 would last you 6 months which would have cost you $66 on the unlimited option. I find the 120GB for $25 options works best for me

Ah ok, I foolishly presumed it was 120gb per month allowance. I suppose that would make sense, but I tend to use about 500gb per month so its not for me :).

Very good point and with astraweb you can pay via paypal which is very simple if people don't want to give out there card details.

Ye I've been using the PAYG service and really happy with it. I last topped up on 24/12/08 (The day I left Giganews) and today still have 45gig still to use, so very reasonable.

I find that since moving from unlimited to PAYG, I'm not raping the downloads every month to get my moneys worth and now just download what I'm interested in. For some people this is a very good, cheap alternative :)

Go Go Astraweb!

Switched over a little while back as well from Giganews, great service so far and their retention is getting better as well. It is just as fast and the retention is similar and both are going for 365 days. Giganews doesn't really offer much to justify it's higher price tag, they have three months at half price and still Astraweb is cheaper.

One gotcha with using PayPal for a Usenet subscription, which may or may not affect you, is that you could find a large number of binary newsgroups are unavailable - mainly those carrying, well, pr0n basically.

Or so I've heard. :)
