initially i stood on it by accident, i tried straighening the bent pins but at least 5 came off lol, so i gave it the hammer treatment.

What'd you straighten the pins with initially? I've had some success with a credit card and my trampled old Pentium still works to this day :p

if the pins are anything like the CT-479 you didnt have much hope, i managed to bend one of mine slightly i tried to bend it back with a 'stanley' and it snapped.

That's where you're going wrong you see . For future reference, I find a sledge hammer and a crow bar work the best !

i'll keep that in mind ;)

the pins were pretty much on the way off, i felt some of them wobbling off in the process.

That will still work, just solder small lengths of wire to each pin then solder the other ends into the motherboard socket. Pay one of your friends a few quid to blow on the core while the pc is on like a human cpu cooler. Works fine here. :D
