I'm having internet connection issues and i've just got off the phone with TalkTalk after an hour and got bloody nowhere.

Basically my internet speed should be uncapped and for the area I live in it was 18Mb down and nearly 1Mb up. Gradually over the last month it has been getting slower and slower to the point where it's running around half the speed even though we've got an unlimited package with no speed caps. The phone operators seem clueless so I would really appreciate if a TalkTalk engineer would be able to have a look at my line and see what's going on.There used to be a guy on here who worked for them and checked it for me but I don't think he's active any more on these forums unfortunately.

Any help would be appreciated.

Hey guys sorry to bump this but i've had this nearly sorted now. Was really impressed with the TalkTalk service but I cocked it up by bumping my own thread.

Anyway, my current speed is just over 17Mb down and nearly 0.90Mb up. one of the TalkTalk reps has given me the following replay but I don't understand any of this technical jargon so I would appreciate it if someone here would be able to help me:

Rep reply:

DLM changed your profile to 9db earlier today and I've now changed your profile to 6db (fastest profile available) and disabled DLM as requested. Your current sync speed is 20Mbps.

We can change your profile to 6db fastpath (interleaving disabled) but this may make your connection unstable and it will give you a lower sync speed - please let us know if you would still like interleaving disabled.

What should I do about that? And what is 'sync speed'?

Cheers.

Unless you want it for gaming, then stick with what you've got :) (Stability is always better when it comes to connections).

Sync speed is the speed your router connects at. 20Mb/s in your case.

Fast path usually boosts sync speed. Stay on Interleaved if you're happy with the latency and throughput.

If you use you connection for gaming then you may want to use fastpath.
Basically if you use the fastpath profile it disables any error checking on the incoming packets of data - essentially meaning your connection could be a bit patchy if your line is a bit noisy.
The upside to this though is that your ping times could be reduced - I went from ~35ms to ~18/19ms on uk Quake Live servers and bbc.co.uk when I was on adsl2+ with ADSL24 (great provider btw).
I'd also like to echo the above about using the TT forums over the phone support, absolutley night and day.
