Hi all,

I've been off work since xmas day due to a knee injury.
I work in retail as a baker and am thinking of trying to find a new job asap. Does anyone work from home and get a decent income from doing so? As retail is all i know & since i left college in 2004 my quallifications are obsolite now.

I've never known anyone work entirely from home earn/ profit more than a few hundred a month.
It's really not doable, if your knee injury makes it difficult for you to move about, carry loaves etc. Try get a desk job, I would say checkouts but it's soul destroying being on checkouts.

You could try setting up your own business. Not always easy depending on what you want to do.

Working from home can get lonely.

I will say when I worked from home for 4 days a week for a year, the walls in the house did seem to grow :( However I find that whenever I do have a few days at home I get tonnes more done in that time then in the office.

your mum doing those sort 1billion letters into piles from an advert in the paper doesnt count

I worked from home for 2 years and was paid well. Was good for a couple of months, but I eventually hated it. I missed the banter - it's so lonely.

I work from home apart from visiting the office around one day a month. For a long time I was a self-employed consultant, but last year I took a "normal" job at my main client and I carried on home working. There has to be a certain amount of trust, but I've known these people for many years so they know I can deliver. I'm in IT (like so many others) and programming is eminently suited to doing at home.

It can, and does, get rather isolated. I think you need a certain temperament to be able to do it.
