I am thinking of getting a USA NTSC PS3, to be exact the MGS4 bundle which is a 80GB PS3, it has PS1+PS2 backwards compatibility, comes with a dualshock 3 controller, MGS4 Game, Download able Pain mini game voucher.

It's a shame this deal won't be available in the Europe, so i got to import it.

I heard you don't need to use a step down converter. Sony would want you to believe that so you buy the UK PS3.

I heard you can just get a standard power cable like the one you use on SKY HD boxes, they work perfect with the NTSC console.

I just want to use a hdmi to dvi cable so i can plug it into my 720p projector. will their be an issue as my projector is a PAL spec projector but can take both PAL/NTSC signal. Will I get funny lines moving across the screen from Connecting a USA NTSC PS3? I heard you get this on 50hz/60hz tv's.?

I heard the PS3 is region free for games but region locked to the country for movie playback.

Well that sucks a bit as i want to rent PAL ps3 games and blueray movies to watch on the PS3, but someone said to me you may need to check the region of the movie that you want to watch it usually tells on the back of the box. Does anybody have any experience with this?

Also some say that with the games if you want to play online then with a NTSC system and a PAL game you have to play on American servers for online multiplayer. And the same if you have a NTSC game you have to play on American servers, is this true?

Would there be a lot of lag here in the UK?

It's been said that the new playstation network has been region locked, in the past people would setup USA accounts on their PAL systems and vice versa but now sony can tell which country you are in from your ip and they block you from opening more than one playstation account.

Finally i have heard on different forums they say if you want to buy down loadable content for your game. Then say that game is a NTSC game then you have to have a USA credit card to order the down loadable content. Or others say if not wait for the new sony prepay cards.

I hope you could tell me just how much all the above is true.

Has anyone got an imported PS3 how are you finding it?

I've got a mate who lives in the USA but i am not that happy asking him to send me one as a gift. I may travel out there to buy one myself. If i do, then i will probably just buy USA games as it's so much cheaper out there everything.

many thanks in advance

I imported a 60gb PS3 last jan. Any kettle cable will work, like the one you use for your monitor.

PSN is not region locked, not for me anyway.

Don't need a US credit card to buy stuff from the UK store.

I know that you don't need a US credit card, but as far as i am aware with a USA system you cannot buy full stop from the UK psn store even with a UK credit card, or have you been able to do so?

Thanks

SWEET!

Do you know if you will be able to play inside the HOME UK servers when it's released. I heard this is not possible. That you need a PAL system.

Many thanks for some of the answers to my questions

Could you tell me please, where did you buy your PS3 from? How much tax did you have to pay on it?

Thanks

There is some website about that has a big list of all the region locked/free blurays, I can't remember it of the top of my head so hopefully somebody else will come along.

Also as mentioned already DVDs, PS1 and PS2 games will have to be from the same region you bought it from.

I imported a HK PS3 at launch & have never had any problems with online play at all, I have setup JAP, HK, USA & UK accounts with no problems, but the PS1 & PS2 games have to be from the PS3 region.

Oh yeh, some blurays are region locked, but most I have come across are region free
