Ok I will tell the system I had in mind and if you think I can change the parts for a reasonable price please let me know. £450 for processor, mobo, ram, and psu. Or if someone can build an i7 system for a reasonable amount let me know.

£120 - ASUS P7P55D = http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showpr...odid=MB-360-AS

£160 - i5 750 - http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showpr...odid=CP-299-IN

£90 - OCZ 4GB 1600MHZ dual channel - http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showpr...odid=MY-180-OC

£80 - Corsair TX650W - http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showpr...23&subcat=1084

You put the same link for the ram. A lot of people have said go for an i7 with 1366 socket as a pose to 1156 socket! What is the differences between the i7 920 and i7 860?

This is the correct link for the RAM:

The socket 1156 motherboards are cheaper . The Core i7 860 also consumes far less power than a Core i7 920 too.

If you are intending to keep your processor for around 2 years or even more then by then the money saved could be put towards a new processor and motherboard.

In two years socket 1366 may even be replaced or the processors sufficiently different such that you need a new motherboard even if the socket is the same.

Here is a comparison of a Core i7 860 and a Core i7 920:

If you do want to go with a socket 1366 based setup this is what I would get:

Core i7 920 ~ £210

3GB 1600MHZ DDR3 ~ £60

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MY-016-PA&groupid=701&catid=8&subcat=1389

Gigabyte GA-EX58-UD3R ~ £144

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MB-159-GI&groupid=701&catid=5&subcat=1283

OCZ ModXStream Pro 600w ~ £61

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=CA-031-OC&groupid=701&catid=123&subcat=

The total comes to around £475 excluding postage.

The difference is related to the 1156 socket with it's integrated controller. What is going to be the main use of the system ?
Gaming ? Go to i5 750
CPU intensive using hyperthreading ? i7 860 (or poss 920)

NB Cat 5th really knows his stuff. I would take his advice in a hardware spec against a lot of other people.

I don't really game that much, I have an Xbox 360 for that. The main use will be to capture and render HD footage.

Personally I'd go for the P7P55D if you're intending on overclocking, as the P7P55LE doesn't have VRM cooling.

Honestly ? If it was me, I'd get the 860.
Better bang for buck as the marginal performance gain on the 920 would not be worth it.
