Long story short, I work for the IT department in a Construction Contracts Management company where Planning Engineers / Quantity Surveyors / Trainee Site Managers / etc all have one day a week at Uni/College on a job related course. These seem fairly abundant when they're construction related but few and far between (i.e. Non-existent) for IT related courses.

I attempted self learning MSCE & was given Friday afternoons to work on it in office/at home when I first started but had to drop it due to workload, and just didn't fancy it after long day (that and I was only on ~12k back then) I know it seems like cutting off my nose but when they spend 5k/year on other trainee employees, then give you £200 worth of books, it doesn't exactly give you the motivation needed.

Given that I've now corrected 90% of all repeat problems & replaced all problem hardware, I'm looking to advance from something other than 'ICT Technician'. The powers that be now agree to a similar setup for myself, as long as it's justifiable.

I am wondering if anyone is or has been in the same situation. What/Where did you study? I'd like to do a BSc in Business Information Systems but haven't heard back from any Universities near me that offer this course. Willing to consider any alternatives if it means I don't have to quit to go full time, as training a side it's a good company and fairly close to home.

Degrees are not really that relevant to system support roles in my experience (which consists of having a computer science degree and being 2nd/3rd line tech). What you need is to expand your directly relevant skills through training on systems you have, or can foresee a use for

I have a degree in Computing and Networks and to be honest, the degree really isnt worth the paper its written on, however it did open doors to interviews that asked for atleast a degree qualification.

What about the Cisco qualifications route?

Although saying that, I've been considering doing my masters via open uni so guess im a bit of a hypocrite lol
