Anyone in the process of ordering a company car?

There's a voice that keeps on calling me.
Hey folks,

It’s come to the dreaded time where I have to choose a new car for work. I currently have a BMW330e, great car but flawed in many ways, crap range and crap boot and fuel tank size. It’s not due for replacement till Nov 24 but I have to start choosing now due to Leadtimes.

We get a good choice of cars normally, just pay a contribution (puc) to get a better car.

Right now the choice seems a bit odd yes lots of EV’s but the PUC is crazy high. Same for PHEV’s the PUC is high.

The PHEV market doesn’t seem to have moved on at all, our system doesn’t list anything from the VAG or the C class mercs, just wondering if this is a market thing? Pretty much all the PHEV’s are a 30-40 mile range

My 330e would cost me another £100 for a car that isn’t as well spec’d despite still being a Msport. Tesla M3 is well priced but i need something with a hatch, and I’m still on the fence with EV’s due to the miles I do. 330e touring with a decent range and decent fuel tank would be brilliant!

I guess the question is what have those who are in the process of choosing or have recently chosen, have experienced? Are cars just way more expensive now or have lease companies jacked up their rates?

Any thoughts?

Hugely more expensive now! I ordered my new car (i4) in September but took about 5 months to find a deal that hit budgets. Never had that issue before! BMW seemed much cheaper to lease than almost everything else - using lease monthly (20k pa contract) divide p11d value they were about 1.3%, almost all other cats in the 1.6 to 1.8 bracket. So i4 lease ended up far lower than theoretically cheaper cars so went with it.

I was looking at phev also, but all the decent sized ones were either too much, or 12% BIK so went fully elec!

I had a similar decision about 18 months ago. I can rack up 20-30,000 miles in a year driving to customers - but had the choice of small engine shoebox, pay-out-of-the-nose Hybrid/PHEV or EV. I ended up going fully EV with a 2020 Kona because it was the best money/range car on our scheme. Its far from the car I would have wanted and I was nervous "every day logistics" - but it has kept up with my mileage without hassle and worked out very cheap to run.

As for company car schemes in general, our prices are always on the rise and generally all over the place. Some things make sense, Korean cars are cheaper, Tesla more expensive. Yet sometimes an MG5 LR is more expensive than a BMW i4, then it corrects and the i4 is so expensive it falls outside the scheme - I honestly don't think the leasing company behind ours has figured out how to account for the ever changing depreciation on PHEV/EV.
