So..anyone joined the Territorial Army?

I'm just thinking about changing my life up a bit. I hate working in an office but still love IT so i'm looking at their intelligence and comms jobs.

I realise its a massive jump but I'm going to go along to one of their open days hopefully see what its like.

As it stands its either save 15k in time for my 21st and go travelling or keep my current job and join the TA part time to see if it satisfys my need for something different whilst still saving for the future.

Back to the question, anyone made the move or got some thoughts to share?

No direct experience, but like you I fancy adding a new aspect to my life (telecomms contractor) so I applied for an information pack from the TA website yesterday. :)

I'm wary of these information packs. They probably have loads of decent info but I'd hate to let myself get slightly taken in by advertising. :o

Probably a little too paranoid but I'd prefer one of these events they do where you try stuff out.

Why don't you jack your job in and join up and become a proper bullet magnet instead of a part time weekend one? :p

have a look at this website ARRSE, www.arrse.com its the home of squaddies, most of them are alright, some throbbers on it, like anywhere really.

There is a TA section where you can ask for information.

ARRSE stands for ARmy Romour SErvice, it not linked to the MOD in anyway therefore it tells it like it is.

They are, just depend on which Unit you are going for, the TA is made up of different regiments, each of them have their own requirements.

Medics are pretty popular right now.

Because I'd still like to retain a bit of 'civi' life at first. Use it as a supplement rather than a full on change.

Thanks. I'll get reading.

You alright about going to Afghanistan for a tour of duty and losing your job?

Yeah I have no problem with going to war. Losing my job..as far as I'm aware my employer has to keep my job open so not sure what you mean about that?

Thanks for the replys anyway!

Am seriously tempted by this.

It's just something completely different, gets you out the office and doing something interesting on the weekend. I am seriously tempted to shape up and join in some capacity but it would be interesting to see what my employers would say about it. They are however very accommodating but I don't know what they would say if I joined.

It's just something completely different, off the wall, and for the same reasons as you it would definately shake my life up a bit!
