Anyone interested in Q6600 - 2500k comparisons?

I've just made an order for my sandy bridge build, should be with me Monday morning.

Will be going from Q6600 B3 @ 3.0Ghz > i5 2500K 3.3Ghz
P5Q-E > Asus P8P67 PRO
4x2GB Corsair XMS2 1066 > 2x4GB Corsair Vengeance 1600

As I'm only changing CPU/mobo/ram, I was wondering if anyone would like me to run any benchmarks / game benchmarks to show differences in performance between the setups.

Will be happy to run the 2500k at stock and also overclocked, if people would like?

I may also consider clocking my Q6600 to 3.3Ghz for clock to clock comparisons, as its running at less than 60oc atm, but I've never felt the need to clock higher / felt it was maybe pushing it too much.

I've access to most of the big title games via my STEAM account, so just shout what you'd like me to run and I'll update the thread.

Yes please; just in the final stages of speccing a SB machine; but been wondering if it is worth the jump?

A Q6600 oc to 3.3 comparison with SB @4.6ghz running BC2 would be ideal.. But any comparisons would be appreciated.

Thanks

why do you need a comparison, the outcome of that is as obvious as breathing. the 4.6Ghz Sandy Bridge will obviously destroy the 1.3Ghz deficit Q6600. wouldn't you rather put them both at 3.3Ghz and see the overall clock for clock improvement, rather than have one with a huge clock speed advantage?

because if they upgrade to sb they will know how much faster their new rig will run. it'll give them an idea how much faster/how much it costs to upgrade.......prob a lot of cash for little speed increase.

why would they want to know how fast a q6600 runs on another system. they already know how fast it is in theirs:confused:

well ok, why not both then? comparing the Sandy Bridge running at its native speeds with Turbo, etc. and then a comparison at locked clock speeds vs. Q6600 to get a feel for the overall clock for clock improvement that Sandy Bridge offers, surely more information is better, no? ;)

Just clocked the q6600 to 3.3GHz using 366 x 9 multiplier @ 1.4v, just going to prime95 it for half an hour for stability.

Can anyone think of any games with built in benchmarks?

I can think of Resident evil 5, just cause 2.

366 x 9 @ 1.4v crashed after 5 mins,
412 x 8 @ 1.4v crashed after 5 mins - temp got to 70 (ramped fan up a bit now)

Its a 1.2875vid B3.

Hope I can get to 3.3Ghz, to get a fair comparison.

MAFIA 2 I think has.

Will run that also.

EDIT: no bsod @ 412v x 8 @ 1.425v, more voltage than id have probably wanted but will tune down to 3.0ghz after these benchies.

As a very rough idea.

My old and new set-up ;

Q9650 @ 4.05ghz - 23300k 3D Mark 06

i2500K @ Stock - 24400 3D Mark 06

Same xfire 5850s used in both tests

Have now run the following with q6600 @ 3.3Ghz:

3d Mark 11 - (Cant find individual cpu score though?)
Heaven Benchmark v2.1
Cinebench R10 64 Bit
Windows 7 index score (i know...)

Mafia II maxed
GTA 4 maxed
Just Cause 2 (all 3 map tests maxed)
Resident Evil DX10 maxed

Would anyone like me to run anything else?

Well i can say that going from a Q6600 @ 3.6 to this 2500k @ stock it feels a LOT quicker. Havent done any benchies yet tho :p

awesome clocks on that Q9650, wonder if the extra 3D marks translates well into real world performance since thats a lot faster, pretty impressive considering the clock deficit of the i-2500K. benched them in any games or anything, don't really have much faith in 3D mark! :D

I didn't do any formal benchmarking (sorry) other than on Arma 2 but I recall Bad Company 2 dipping to around 40fps on my Q6600 (@3.2Ghz). Now with the Sandy Bridge (@4.4Ghz) it is constantly running at 60fps. Haven't tried on a 120Hz monitor yet but the minimum frameate does seem a lot better and the whole game seems very smooth.

What graphics card are you using?

I'd like to see a comparison with TF2 (high graphical settings) fps wise on a 32 man server on a map like dustbowl.

The other one, if you have it also, is Left4Dead 2, (high graphical settings) fps wise during the campaign Swamp Fever.

Thanks
