Looking to get myself a decent one come August. I've got a cheapo .177 at the mo' but it's not really good for anything but back garden targets.

I want something that I can hunt with over range after getting used to it

First ideas have been a BSA Tactical XL .22 Rifle, BSA Essencial Scopes (6-24x AO ones) and some Pro Mount "Pro 4" medium height mounts.

I preferr the synthetic stock of the Tactical over the Lightning XL which I'm told is the same rifle but with wooden stock? Both and very good amatuer rifles apparently?

Suggestions/Opinions?

I can't help you on airguns as I am a rimfire user. Also this thread might have been better in GD as from the past, the majority of posters for this type of discussion are located there, I think.

Anyhow, if you don't get anything here, I'd suggest you visit HERE for all your gun related queries that's if you haven't found the place already. I'm there quite a lot.

Get a Logun, lifetime warranty, built like a tank and beautiful quality.

My father owns one of these: http://www.logun.com/products.asp?P_ID=35 and swears by it (as opposed to at it)
