Ive had my bike (honda CR250/2001) now since january but have not used it once despite spending £1800+ having the thing rebuilt...Ive decided that the time has come for me to go and get some kit..Now ive looked on the net and found that i need the following to be able to practice at my local track (worcester-the one on the M5)..

ACU approved helmet
Knee length boots
Gloves
Riding trousers
long sleeved jersey
goggles
Chest protector (ideally)

Im new to motocross so have no idea what makes etc are worth getting..I was going to just pop down to my local shop and ask them but dont want to get sold **** stuff because its all they have in at the time or whatever..

Anyone got any recommendations on what makes to stick to or any other good advice on motocross in general.. :)

Although this is going back a few years I always used Alpinestars stuff, especially their boots. My last pair were Tech 7's and they rocked, a very well put together boot indeed.

For the clothing I used to use Fox stuff but it washed out very easily and ripped too easy. I moved to Alpinestars and Thor gear and both of those were very good.

I'd also recommend strongly that you get body armour, it saved me so many times.

Alpinestars Tech 6s are great boots, you can pick them up for about £180 if you have a poke around. Between Tech 6s and Tech 8s, probably over half the people who ride MX wear one of the two.

I really like Thor kit, and www.one11mx.com have really good deals with it at the moment, I got a full set (jersey jeans and gloves) of Thor AC for £130 which is very good. They do the Phase gear as well which is cheaper, I have a set of that too which I like.
A few of my mates really like Alloy kit, one has some Fox stuff which he really likes, and I'd stay away from Answer because from what I've seen it falls to bits.

Helmets, just get whichever brand fits you. It doesn't matter that an Arai is £300 odd quid and built really well etc etc, if it doesn't fit it's no good. Just try a load on.

Can't really go wrong with a roostguard, as long as it's comfy and well built, and you can usually tell straight off. I use a SixSixOne Racejacket, which isn't a jacket at all, it's a foam roostguard. It feels flimsy at first, but really the roostguards offer no actual impact protection, they only protect you from stones. If it's a really rocky track I wear my plastic Polisport armour instead sometimes.

I dunno a lot about goggles, my choice is restricted as I wear glasses, so I use Scott OTG ones. My mates are all in love with Spy goggles though.

Get yourself some knee guards too, totally totally vital. Try and try some on where you buy your boots from so you can see how they feel together.

Elbow guards are an idea too, I don't like riding without mine.

Here's my baby, by the way :D

i was riding from my 6th birthday, 13 years non-stop. both wrists broke 5 times a piece, both wired and pinned- all out now. Both collarbones broke, left one twice. almost all ribs at least cracked or broke. knee ligaments, dislocated my hip section from the bottom of my spine(?) only for a fraction of a second but caused ligament damage. broken cocsyx, cracked c8 vertebrae (not bad thankfully) right ankle shattered pinned and wired. still plastic pin there. multiple broken fingers and toes. pin in index of right finger(gone now). tibia and fibia of left leg (right one fine!) fore arm both sides broke. nothing serious, being so lanky my wrists took most the brunt. Humerus both fine thankfully, shoulder blade on right cracked. ummm probably forgot some, two of the wrist injuries were the worst possible break you can do before a compound/open fracture according to the consultant at the time. my x-ray folder is about 3 inches thick. and im thankful that im still able to walk straight.

That's all 'cus motox bikes aren't designed for 8 foot monsters like you!
