Anyone know where there is a good beginners guide to making your own cables from scratch using connectors, wires, pins etc.? I also plan to braid the cables, but there are plenty of good guides about for that. Willing to put both time and money in to do it right.

I'm looking for a comprehensive online guide, although I would consider a good old fashioned book if it was not too expensive.

I've never heard of one specific to ATX power supplies. I don't think people ususally go quite as far as making all their own cables from scratch, do they?

It's not too tricky to terminate wires though as long as you have the right tools and have done a bit of practise. With hand termination you can position the wire inside the crimp barrel precisely where you need it. Crimp something wrong though and you introduce all sorts of issues such as high resistance, low physical strength and open circuits.

This is the basic crimping guideline we used to work to in my old job, although the actual book was much longer than this.

Not sure anyone has really made a guide for making your own cables. What sort of information are you looking for?

Simply put you need the plugs, male and female pins, wire, wire stripper and crimping tool.

Cut wire to the desired length, strip the insulation off the end and crimp the pins onto the wire and plug into the plug.

Edit: Actually I know of a guide but I can't link to it unfortunately. I haven't looked at the guide tealc posted but I am sure anyone here can answer queries if you have them.

I think crimping is the thing I'm mainly concerned about - I've never done it and don't really know much about it. I do know someone who should be able to help me but I'm not going to see him for a month or so and I'm impatient about getting on. If anyone else has any ideas please post them but otherwise I think I'll put this on the back burner for a while
