Called Sky up to ask about getting upgraded to a Plus box.

Been a customer for many years, but they would not cut me any good deals, only new customers get them free. Wasnt looking for a complete freebie, but expected a bit of discount at least ( tight Scottish git, me :D ).

Anyway, had a look on the bay of "E's" and there are quite a few used and new Plus boxes for sale there.

So does anyone have any idea in what is involved in fitting these things?.

Is it just a case of unplugging the standard Sky box and plugging the Plus one in?.

No, you need another cable from your sky dish to it, so there would be 2 cables in total where you previous sky box has one.

Also I think you need to add something to your sky dish, but I am unsure what that is.

Cheers.

After Googling it, I keep reading about 4 point LNB's or something?.

Might just need to "bite the bullet" and pay them to come out and do it. :(

LNBs are easy to fit, its a uncrew job and replace the part, harder part is running the extra cable round the place.

You'll need an engineer visit to exchange the single LNB on your satellite dish with a quad LNB, and run an extra cable from the dish to your box.

In my experience Sky refuse to supply a box without an engineer visit, even if you just need it plugging in. Nice little moneyspinner for them, as usual.

I know if you had it multi-room, it would be a free installation, you can keep the box for a month and pay the £10 fee and then cancel it. But I am not sure if they put you in a 12 month contract if you take out multi room, I suppose it is worth asking though.

Had a go at this a while ago, you also have to ring sky because the viewing card and your sky box are matched together.

Phone up and ask to cancel the service.
Say your not satisfied, can get a better deal with Virgin etc.

They will then try to cut a deal with you. You might have to haggle a bit but you'll win in the end as they hate people leaving the service.

My mate got upgraded to a Sky+ box for £49 installed after phoning to cancel and then haggling a bit. ;)

Thanks for the info, will give it a go.

Let me know how it goes cause I need Sky+ as I'm missing too much TV when I'm away.

I've got WF65 cable for the Sky+ installation and if I can get the receiver and lnb for a reasonable price, I'll install it myself which would be a simple job as I've installed a motorised dish myself.

But if I can get a cut deal with Sky, I'll give it to them.

I have been a Sky Full Package customer for 17 years and to get any discount you have to threaten them with leaving. :(
