Anyone know about storage heaters?

I used to fix a lot of storage heaters (mainly creda or dimplex) on homeserve and the most common problem was the thermal link that melted or the thermostat. The elements are pretty reliable so i doubt it's those. Depending on the model, there might be a little reset button on the bottom. Give it a press and see how it goes. Failing that, get a multimeter and do live tests being ultra careful etc etc.

If you have home cover for plumbing/electrics, or its a council house you could always give your insurer/council a ring and try and get it done off them. That's what all of the customers used to do when i was doing the rounds.

I was thinking it could be one of the elements but how would I find out?

A multimeter and being careful would do or alternatively just do it by touch.

What I mean is, that in the morning after the elements should have heated the blocks up, switch off the power (just to be sure) and remove the front cover. In the big storage heaters there are 3 vertical elements (may vary but was with the models we had.

The element(s) not working will not have heated the blocks up that they touch (although they may have residual heat from neighbouring blocks)

Be careful though as the heated blocks on the elements which are working will have got very hot.
