I'm waiting to hear from the installation company but OcUK may be able to help.

We had a fibre connection installed to another office across the road but I can't get any connections. How can I tell if we have bought the correct switches for the job? Is there different types for fibre?

We have:

2 * Linksys Gigabit Ethernet SX Mini-GBIC SFP Transceiver
Link

2 * 24-Port 10/100/1000 Gigabit Switch
Wire-speed switching and Linksys reliability in a 24-port Gigabit switch
Link

Any help would be great!

What type of fibre is it? Are you sure you've terminated it properly?

Edit: Is the link light on? :p

Fixed the links :o The fibre was installed buy a networking company so I guess so? All I can see on the patch panel they put in was "50/125"

As you can guess I don't know the full spec that was installed - Can get access to the spec at the moment.

I didn't mean the links (html), I meant the link light on the switch! I'm assuming it's off. Does the switch detect the GBIC ports as being populated?

50/125 is a multimode fibre and that's a multimode GBIC so in theory it should be plug and play. I take it you don't have access to any test equipment?

No link lights - I've tried GBIC port 1 + 2. We had 4 fibre links installed and tried them to no joy.

I can use port 12 (CAT5) on the switch with the GBIC installed so either its the fibre link or because it isnt live it lets me to that?
