As spring draws near im getting closer to my savings target for a van.

On my mind are vw transporter or a ford transit.
It looks like my Money will go much further with a ford. Is this just badge snobbery? Or. Are VWs better?

FYI I think I'll have 15k saved up by April for this. Which seems to get something "OK".

I'm soon going to be signing up to some discussions boards just for this. But thoughts I'd see if anyone has done this here.

i think there was a user mcknifey i think i saw said he did conversions on transits as part of his business maybe search for his posts?

What age can you looking at?

VW's are silly money, but are more reliable than transits, transits have terrible diesel engines (the 2.0 have so many issues, wet belt failures, oil pump failures, timing chain failures on the slightly earlier ones) ford are most definitely not on top of it, my company is currently in the process of taking ford to court based on 2 rangers and a transit. I'm sure others will say different but they truly are rubbish. Shame as the vans are really good.

I would like to recommend a Merc sprinter as a decent alternative, would also recommend an automatic for cruising around

What sort of conversion you looking for? My Alphards up for sale at the moment.

You pay a mega premium for the VW badge, which is why I got the alphard, a better base for a small camper than a van anyway. Quiet, insulated, comfy.

My parents made the mistake of buying a Ranger. Absolute pile of junk, the newer ones anyway. Injectors dead after only doing 20k or something daft. Lawyers also involved I think.

Alphards are nice a friend of ours has one got it converted professionally, it is small but done right does work. It suits them (2x pensioners with a dog)

Ive done a few conversions myself. Did a T5.1 with a Van Project 77 setup. My plan was when I bought my Vito Tourer to see if I could get the VP77 setup to fit it, but kids arrived, derp.

I did an older 54 plate Transit before that. It was done using kitchen units (the narrower wall cupboards), it came out great using bathroom wall panels as well. Cheap but super effective.

Dont think they did a Diesel one of those. Pretty sure that one is a 3.5v6 petrol

Yep, they only produced petrol versions of the alphards.

2.4 is most common, but the 3.5 is very nice and gives a bit of "pep" in this model type.

Diesels weren't installed as they weren't/aren't smooth enough for the market the Alphard was aiming at,

1st and 2nd gen are reasonable amounts of money. 3rd gen (2015 on) are very pricey

The Nissan/Renault V9X diesel is quite decent in that respect, but probably newer than the design and likely would struggle to fit it in there.

I'm gutted Nissan never did the Pathfinder, sans Chassis issues and with the V9X engine in this country.
