Yes, I know it has a bad reputation, but I am through to a second round of interview for a position in Birmingham. The daily commute from where I currently am is very excessive so I would be needing to move.

I am seeking to rent a property to the South-East of Birmingham (near NEC), or East of Birmingham (between Birmingham and Coventry).

Ideally, i'd like a new/modern house/apartment with decent internet (70Mb/s+), separate allocated parking, in a good area where car is unlikely to get damaged/stolen!

Do such abodes exist?!

Thanks in advance!

Edit: Budget is absolute max of £650 p/m.

Yardley/Sheldon/Olton is a good starting point.

I live in Yardley myself on the Coventry road running 76mbps BT internet (The internet here is quite good as they've rolled out fibre everwhere), area is a lot nicer than where I have been before such as Acocks Green/Tyseley... and has a direct link to Coventry, the airport & the NEC (900 bus or drive).

Elmdon is closer to NEC as it's just past Sheldon, a little bit more expensive though.
I'm renting a flat currently for £450, seems the going rate across the area.

Yes they exist. :p

There's not much in the way of decent places near the NEC that are in Birmingham and aren't complete dives. I'd personally be looking at Solihull, though it can be pricey.

I must not live too far from you, just off the Coventry Road in Yardley :p

Agreed, Solihull is the place to go if you want to be close to Birmingham and Coventry.

Solihull is a no brainer if you can afford it. By far the best option.!!

Solihull is slowly declining, the 12 year old hipsters and McDonalds town centre cronies are an annoyance.

However if you can afford it, it's the best you're going to get but take into consideration the council tax rates, properties are a lot more expensive.

When looking at Solihull don't fall for the Chelmsley Wood con!

Also Solihull is massively overpriced, overrated and soulless but with the criteria you've stipulated is probably the best place for you to find what you need.

650 would get you a nice apartment in the city center if you didn't mind being more central (its not that busy of a place imo)

I pay about 600 (inc bills) in a shared 2 bed and live in brindley place with secure car park and concierge etc.

Otherwise Solihol is definitely be your best option.

Where about's in Birmingham specifically is the job?.

It's one of those odd cities in which nice areas can be very close to terrible ones, so it's good to know beforehand. I used to work in Solihull & lived in Birmingham town centre which wasn't bad, plenty of stuff to do right in the city.

Indeed, because:

However Marston Green, which is literally half a mile down the road, is actually a really nice little area :p

Hehe, that's just round the corner from where I work :p

You might do better looking in one of the villages outside of the city; Meriden, Catherine De Barnes, Hampton in Arden etc. As they will be much nicer than in the city - not sure on rental costs or availability round there however.

Otherwise, to echo others, I'd look towards Solihull where possible, as it's far more civilised than B'ham (except for Chelmo... :p)

While we're here what's a good indian restaurant in Birmingham?

I'm heading there tomorrow for a week and staying beside the airport.
