Im going to dublin tomorrow for a long weekend and staying at the Jurys hotel by Croke Park. does anyone know what the area is like as someone told me it was a bit rough today :(

Also if you know Dublin- I,d be greatful if anyone could recommend some decent places to go out- eat and drink- preferably away from the most expensive and touristy areas. and stuff i must do during the day would be nice too.....

I dont ask for much........ :p

thanks in advance

Like I tell everybody, if you need to get out of the touristey areas, get on a train and go to anywhere at least half an hour away. Dublin isn't what it used to be, it's changed for the worse. You'll get fleeced no matter where you go.

If you want to stay in Dublin though, you might as well go an visit the Guinness Storehouse at St. James Gate. It's an interesting tour, not of the factory, but of a museum showing the history and making of Guinness. You also get to go to the mavity bar and get your free pint. Any more will cost you about €5+ a pint if I remember correctly.
You might as well look into the history of things as well. Go see the GPO where the British were fought from during the Easter rising. Also, go have a look at Kilmainham Jail, there's loads to see in it especially if you're interested in the history of the uprising.

I'm going to County Wicklow for part of the weekend for a wedding and will get to drive around some of the surrounding areas but i have thus and friday night booked up in the centre, cheers for the info-

I will probably check out the Guiness factory and also some of the historic bits and bobs

Scuzi- have you been to the jamerson factory? if so what is it like

I agree with Scuzi on everything said above ^ Kilmanham, Guinness storehouse, GPO etc are all central and worth a visit.

Trinity College is interesting if you are interested in that sort of thing. There is also another Alcohol related tour "The Jemeson experience" which I liked. Temple Bar is the main "Stag/Hen" drinking area but can be fun at night, It is also worth a visit during the day if the weather is good. The Oliver Saint John Gogarty and the Porterhouse on Parliment street would be good places to start the night off.

The area around Croke park can be a bit ropey at night, Like any city though if you keep your head down you should be fine. That hotel is brand new and beautiful :)

As for eating out in Dublin....Be prerared to dig deep, an expensive affair wherever you go IMHO.

Enjoy your weekend, agus Cead mile Failte

I haven't done the Jameson tour myself but some mates have been on it and said they had powerful craic. Plenty of free whiskey is always a good start :D

I'll be landing into Dublin tomorrow evening myself although I won't be stopping for long, I'll be driving up home at about 20:00.

Have fun! Slainté!
