Anyone know how to 'force' play a video file thats corrupted

As title, I have an mp4 video file thats corrupt but has some family memories on it - iv tried a range of players to play it but non will - is there any such thing as a player that will play it regardless even if the outputted image is messy ? its a 4.31gb file.

Have you tried running it through handbrake and reencoding it to another format?

Could also try opening it in VirtualDub

Good idea, trying that now - I have selected the file but it keeps saying when I try to re-encode 'you must first scan a source and setup your job before encode'...............and as far as i can tell i HAVE set the job up, it has its outputs and presets etc.......hmmmm any idea ?

Just tried that it wouldnt even open a working video file from the same camera :eek:

- its a sony 1080p 50fps video file

You might need this ffmpeg plugin to get it to open an MP4, I know I had to jump through some hoops to open an MP4 a while ago

Ok that made it open a working file from the same camera

but when i try to open the corrupt one it says 'unable to open file'

Ok after digging around it seems i need something that can repair XAVC S HD video files?!?! Any ideas?!

So we are talking footage taken on Sony camera - XAVC S - is just h264 in mp4 or MTS container.

ITS TAKEN ME MONTHS BUT I FOUND THIS AND IT WORKED :O

It's the most slap dash solution iv ever seen but iv tried every bit of software ever and this worked! hahaha
