Local AV shop usually gets in speakers that are of good interest and today they had these in, the missions the guy said would go on sale for around £100 ish next week whilst the B&W are on sale now for £30 the pair, there is no damages to the missions but the B&W tweeters are kind of caved in, something a quick close shave with the hoover hose should be able to fix easily though.

I'm interested in the missions as my current JPW towers are the same rating but are black and I'd like some wood coloured ones to match my rooms flooring.

I wouldnt suggest using a hoover on a tweeter! Sellotape should do the trick though. B&W tend to use hard-dome tweeters though and so the damage is probably extensive. Replacing the tweeters wouldnt be too costly or difficult though.

With the 702s you absolutely must check that the front panel is totally firm. The drivers are attached to that and eventually they can work loose - once that happens you may as well bin them (as its loose due to a disintegration of the wood).

Personally, I would go for the Missions - they are visually undamaged (though extensive suspension / voice coil damage is possible without being able to see it). They look generally they have been respected and well looked after - not something I could say about those B&Ws.

The Missions are also going to be a bit more sympathetic towards your Kenwood amp too.

Hope this helps :)

Thanks for the post! Sympathetic though :o, my amps perfectly matched to drive them (100wpc @ 8ohms) well pretty much the same as what I'm running now (minus 2 ohms for current speakers) but I would prefer the beach missions as it would go well with my room, both are biwirable so that's not an issue, just will ened to get some new cabling. Amp does get pretty hot with set A turned on so will be interesting to see if it increases more with both A and B on

Reckon the best way to see if I prefer them to what I have now is to take my amp to the store to test the speakers on? not sure they will allow this but they should do, I looked around their store and they didn't have anything half decent enough to drive either set of speakers.

If I get the B&W though I can allways use them elsewhere or as a quad setup and if what Baf says is true then they are a bit of a bargain, maybe a profit maker if I can sort the tweeter cones out!

£30 is cheap enough to speculate with I suppose :)

If they have been abused seriously they can get hot enough inside to melt the baffle behind the tweeter

If you do get both, butcher them and put the crossovers in the Missions because the missions cant take much power really. You might want to check how similar the characteristics of both are though :)

Series 1 601's dont go for anywhere near £100. Perfect condition 601 s2's go for around £100.

I would assume both tweeters would need replacing at the very least so even at £30 by the time you have bought 2 tweeters you could prolly get a good condition set of 601's.

So given the choice on offer if the missions are in good condition go for them !

You can get replacement B&W Tweeters for buttons.

You could 'upgrade' to a brand new set of Morel tweeters and still come in at under £100 (just about).

Personally, my dislike for those speakers would see me butchering them ;)
