Want to get it in the flat but want to be seperate from the landladys phone line in her flat downstairs.

Do they need a phone line ? Howdo they connect it ? How much would it cost for what they install ??

In short. No.

In long, no, they use all their own equipment, they will install their own phone line if you want one, but you don't need to have a phone line for Virgin BB.

If you are talking about their cable services then no, they will install a coax cable to your house and everything runs off that. But their "national broadband" or adsl service needs a phone line.

As already posted, no you don't as long as you're having cable.

However when I originaly called Virgin for BB & TV it was cheaper for me to get the bundle that included their phone. So took it and had the phone line fitted in a cupboard.

Just to be anal, its a figure8 twin wire. One is coax, and one is telephone. The coax runs both TV and modem. You can guess what the other does :p.
