As title really, looking at upgrading soon, and I fancy NVidia, as I've been with ATi for years and fancy a change, never had a problem with ATi just think its good to see what the other side has to offer too

I have no bias to either company, so please dont let this degenerate into fanboism etc.

Anyhow back on track, I'm currently torn between the 560 SOC and 570, but was wondering if anyones seen any news on custom 570s due out soon?

Only one ATM seems to be the Phantom, and whilst it does like quite sexy, IMO the OC is too small to justify the price premium, I've posted on gigabyte to see if they have plans for a 570 SOC, but has anyone seen anything on a 570 SOC or other custom 570 due soonish?

Thanks

Not sure if it will make any difference but I would compare the actual noise of the reference GTX 570 (40% fan speed) to that of the 5850 (20% fan speed) its quiet at idle cannot hear it.

When playing games you would actually have to listen close up to know it's actually altered speed and noise, the 6950 (stock speeds not flashed) even just at 30% fan speed sounds louder than the 570 even at load in games.

So in other words the reference cooler for the 570 is damn good, its virtually impossible to hear even at load. :)

Yeah its more the OC I'm looking at, as I say ideally someones going to come along and say "Yes there a 1GHz 570 SOC due out next week for only £20 more than normal card, performs same as a 580" in which case I'll be purchasing this, at moment I'm torn as the performance between the 560 SOC and 570 is very close and the 560 SOC is £50 cheaper, but if I bought the 560 SOC or a reference 570 now and then a load of OCd 570s come out in next few weeks I'll be kicking myself, so just checking if anyones seen any news about any, had a quick scan on google/main hardware sites but couldnt see anything that jumped out

Mate, skip the 570 and 560 and buy a GTX480! It's still at 200 quid pre-order, and will give you GTX570 performance for the price of a 560.

What res are playing in?

I play 1920x1200, I'm well aware of the performance of all cards at each resolution - and my 4890s still handled everything on max at this res anyway, I have no NEED to upgrade, I merely WANT to, as I say I was just wondering if anyone had heard anything of any impending custom 570 releases as I dont want to be in situation of regretting anything I buy now in a months time, thats all

Not an option I wish to consider, thanks anyway

In that case i'd wait to see what comes out, surely non-reference 570's are inevitable

Thats my thinking too, its just time frame, next few weeks I'll definitely wait, coupla months I may wait, if its gonna be nearer 6 months then I'll go for it now, thanks

Thats what I'm hoping Setter, seems no one knows on here but I've posted in Gigabytes forum and E-mailed their customer service, once I get an answer I'll update

The 570 clocks very well anyway and as said its cooler is pretty quiet (not silent). Depends whether u want to wait or want something now. The Phantom isnt that much more expensive than reference and will be quieter, cooler and I would assume easily hit 950MHz on the core.

Why not? He is right in that it offers the same or better performance for almost £100 less. Seems a bit like a no-brainer really compared with the 570.

This is purely an upgrade I want, not one which is necessary or driven by budget or anything, and I want an NV 500 series card, I have had ATi for years and feel like looking at what NV have to offer, and I want a reasonably quiet card (please dont turn this into the argument over how loud a 480 is, Im well aware its subjective, I just dont want one) hence the 560SOC/570 being my favoured option ATM
