I remember playing this old game I think it was late 90's.
All I remember is it was sort of a medieval/fantasy game I think it was 3rd person view but I'm not 100% sure.

There was a game mode where you could fight monsters and decapitate them with your sword.

Hope someone can help find it I've been trying to for ages.

I seem to recall it may have had a big thing about setting traps for enemies using the environment (braziers etc). Argh. Really annoyingly tip-of-my-tongue now.

Yes, I remember hacking limbs off and beating foes to death with the wet end! :D

Well done m4cc45, it is on GOG but it's just called "Blade of Darkness" if you are searching for it...think that'll be the next purchase!

Those who like their medieval fighting games, anyone remember Witchaven? That was brilliant at the time.

Probably the best of the genre was Dark Messiah of Might and Magic, that was superb with decent graphics, I still play it occasionally.

Witchaven... is that the one that's a bit like Doom / Hexen? If it is it wasn't too bad. I played most FPS's around that era though I much preferred System Shock 1 / 2 as my preferred FPS's.

Dark Messiah I also still play (I have it on Steam) the graphics aren't too bad and I love kicking the posts and dropping logs on them :)

Loved Severance BoD - completed it with all characters. Could not decide who was my favorite out of the barbarian or Knight. Barbarian had the best weapons imo, but the knight had that full suit of armor by the end of the game. Was a truly epic game at the time; the closest thing to it nowadays is Darks Souls imo, though Severance was not as hard.

Fired it up about 3 years ago. It has not aged well unfortunately. The control scheme is not quite frustrating, but you could probably get used to it with prolonged play again.

The game truly dripped atmosphere :D.

edit - I meant the control scheme out of fighting really. locked onto an enemy it was great directing the sword swipes to take off arms legs and heads. I don't know why they don't makes something like this again in a modern engine. I remember the devs (Raven? - were a Spanish lot) promised a sequel but went bust before they could do it. Shame.
