sorry if this question seems a bit dum but im new to overclocking ive overclocked my q6600 to 2.6gz, (1.337v) stock temp 25c and my 8800gtx to 620/960 stock temp 67c,

On air with an aftermarket cooler you'll probably be fine to go up to 1.38v, remember to check your temps. Basically you're fine up to 1.4v but the higher you go the more heat there will be and this is what you need to really keep your eye on. Download coretemp and use that to see the cpu temps. If you use speedfan remember to ADD 15 degrees as it doesn't report it correctly. Max temp I would be happy with is about 65 degrees (UNDER LOAD!) but ideally 50 and lower.

Check this thread out to get a feel for what you might be able to acheive.

and also, make sure to read through Jokesters great guide here:

What motherboard are you using? Also, your voltage seems high for that overclock. Not that it's a problem but it will just make things hotter, that's all. If you can lower the voltage and still be stable then overall that's a lot more desirable.

Good luck! :)

Temperatures are unlikely to damage the cpu as it will throttle before then and auto shutdown if temps get too high. Your GPU will artiface and 'sparkle' when it shows signs of overheating. afaik the gpu's will NOT auto shutdown if they get too hot so be carefull with them.

that gfx card is fin up to about 85 degrees or so I've read! Mine just peaks on 80 degrees with no problems. But yeah, graphics cards be careful with overclocking, if you see any white sparklies then I believe that's the memory being too high and if it's corruption then its shaders or core.
