Morning all,

Does anyone know what this icon means on a shared file in One Drive? The file was shared by someone else with me so I'm not its owner, if that makes a difference.

Any ideas?

I had an attempt at searching for it and came up with nothing, i guess this is the price we pay for replacing words with nothing but icons.

On the subject of guessing that's what I'm going to do. :) To me it looks like a compass, what that means i have no clue. Doesn't it tell you to the right of the icon?

Thank you for looking, and likewise, nothing from reverse image searches or from looking at MS's dedicated guide to OneDrive icons. I thought it looked like a stove hob dial or egg timer dial...both completely silly. Unless maybe it indicates that it's a file I will lose access to at some point? But then you'd think it would be a more obvious stopwatch image or clock or something.

To the right of the icon is just the name of the last person to be active on the file (it's wrong!). Mouse hovering over the icon also shows nothing either.

Is it something to do with the sharing of the file? Did the person who shared the file with you mark it as "can View" only?

It has to be doesn't it, but I can view, review and edit it, so seemingly not restrictions. Were you thinking the icon looked a bit like an eye, or another reason?

I tried using Google lens on the above but nothing. For such a major software product, that is truly shocking.

Must be too busy trying to fix Windows 11 to explain the random icons :D

Yes, I was thinking that it looked a bit like an eye. A freaky reptile looking side eye, but an eye nonetheless. :p Is it an excel file? Maybe it means that the file is opened somewhere else at the same time(or not open as the case may be)
