Anyone know what this noise is

Hello does anyone know what this noise is.

Battery light come on the other day, dash light was flickering/clock light and so one, also if i was idle my revs would jump up and down.

I had someone test my battery which was fine but alternator is not charging the battery.

So leaves me with the voltage regulator or the alternator, this noise has only happen today

I dont wanna change alternator only to find out it was the regulator.

Car is a astra g convertible if that helps.

Have you any look at the belt or pulleys yet?

Can you unplug the alternator to see if it goes away?

Makes no sense, regulator is part of the alternator.

Why just change reg? Better to replace the alternates no? Who replace regs nowadays? That noise is belt/pully related check when removing alternates could also be the timing belt cover, poke it and see what happens

It was the regulator but changed the alternator as found one of a mate for £15, changed within 20mins.

It also got rid of that noise it was making.

I also have a noise on my car. It's coming from the left hand side as I can hear it reflecting off any fences or objects on the left as I drive.

It is a regular noise that increases with speed so at slow speed its: sh.........sh.........sh......

And at fast speed its: sh...sh...sh...sh...sh

So as it's regular and correlates with speed I'm thinking something to do with one of the wheels. I can't see anything obvious though. Any ideas?
