Howdy,

I need to know what this sign would denote. Does it indicate water mains or inspection cover etc?

It is on a residential property.

fire hydrant

edit - if there was a major fire in your street the fire engines would tap into it...it also denotes location of the hydrant i believe

Yup, I think there is one outside. Basically I noticed it on a property I am thinking of offering on. It may be a deal point, cos when they test it, or need it I can't get off the drive!

I'll have another look to see if the hydrant is on the property (doubtfull) or on the pavement/verge.

I wouldn't worry about it, in one of my old houses there was one on the exterior of our front garden wall denoting a hydrant in the pavement just in front of our house but we still managed to get planning permission to drop the kerb and tarmac our drive:)

This one is on the property, quite low to the ground. Also the propery is a few meters from the wall/pavement/verge. I suppose I could get it moved to the outside wall..?

I would imagine so as it's only a marker so it doesn't really matter where it is as long as it's in plain view. The one outside our house was only used once (in the droughts of 1976) and we (my parents) had that house from 1968-1998 so it shouldn't really be that much of a factor in your decision:)
