Anyone know what this style of animation is called?

I've been trying to find out what this style of Art/animation is called, I've been drawing a blank for ages.

The best example of it that I can recall is the scene in Hot Fuzz where Danny is showing Sgt. Angel his flip-book sketch;

I seem to recall that this style of art is quite a British thing, can anyone tell me what it's called or anything else about it?

It stood, a very long time ago, for Angel of Darkness. Now, however, it doesn't stand for anything.

Amusingly, I used to get kicked from BF2 servers as there was a german BF2 clan called AOD and I wasn't on the memberlists for the servers.

Reminds me a bit of Beryl Cook's paintings. Shortened, chunks limbs. She normally paints women though.
