Basically im thinking of swapping my single carb 1B3 to a Weber 32/36 twin carb.

This involves me taking off the intake manifold of my 1.5 and swapping it with a 1.6 (Mk 1 Golf!!)

Now as I understand it I will have to re-jet the carb for a 1.5 seeing as its meant for a 1.6?

Also, what kind of power/economy improvements could there be? If the single weber conversion (which is EOL) is around 10%. Im guessing from some reading that it depends on how I jet it?

Cheers :)

Hi,

Back when I had a Peugeot 205 1.4 Rallye UK 75bhp I think it was, I swapped over the twin choke carb for another which had a slightly larger second choke... It made no difference at all, except that it caused problems with starting, idling and consumption.

If you're going to get it done, get it done properly by someone who knows what they're doing...

If you're not having any problems with the Pierburg I wouldn't bother changing to a Weber 32/36, if you do decide to change it, then if the 32/36 came off another VW (Or any!) 1.6 it will work no problems, no need to re-jet it for a 1.5, if the 32/36 comes from an unknown source I would talk to a Weber Specialists who will supply the correct bits, if it's a brand NEW Weber they will jet it accordingly.

If you're doing it for some 'performance' gain, then forget the 32/36 and look at the Weber 38 (38/38) which is a better Carb than the 32/36, but you'll only really see any real improvements from getting any replacement Carb set-up properly by a Specialist (£££!)
