Anyone make their own Pizza's?

Does anyone make their own pizza's from the dough up or get pre-done dough and just top it?

It sounds pretty straight forward but are there any pitfalls? You'd have to get the equivalent of a 'stone' to bake the pizza on but for the oven, what are these called?
 
Made a couple of pizzas last night, question about the pepperoni though, it has like a skin on it and even when cooked of was still tough?
 
The tomato sauce I make to base the pizza is a bit bland, it consists of onion, clove of garlic tinned tomato's, basil, oregano, salt and pepper but it's not really zinging.

What else could I add to it?
