Anyone Not Running Super Fast Systems??

Until a few weeks ago I was using a dual PIII/1133 & Matrox G550 as my everyday PC. It handled most things I needed it to but running JAlbum on a large folder of photo's was really slow. I never got on with P4 S478, probably because it couldn't be dualled. Dual Athlons came along when I was broke but Conroe popped up just at the right time. So now I have an E6400 on a DS4 mobo with 7800GS & two 400GB 7200.10 HDDs and it's a completely different world.

my machines low spec (well i think so)
(im not happy with my system... too slow)
spec in my sig,.

but im getting a conroe rig at xmas time and allso liquid cooling and hoping to take the E6600 conroe up to 4ghz ish
 
Used to be into overclocking and modding, but not anymore. I simply haven't the time or cash to blow on it anymore and have to be more careful with my spending. So I bought a 360 for gaming :p

I have had my system for about 18months, I am considering on upgrading my system, but am thinking of staying with skt939 and just getting 2gig of memory and an X1900 GPU :)

Same as me really. Ive always enjoyed staying a generation behind but using quality components to get the best out of my system i.e DFI Expert For Overclocking. 1800xt for its value and top performance.

Im going to sound a bit geeky here but I loved that whole Abit NFS-2/barton era. People were pushing there systems to the limit yet staying on a really good budget.

But thats just my opinion :)

Don't knock the 9800Pro - still a good card. I get excellent frame rates playing NFS Most Wanted with it [better than Underground 2 for some reason].

I'm definitely not running a super fast system:-

WD Raptor 74GB (one of my favourite parts!)

DVD writer & CD writer
Relisys 17" LCD

It does the job, I can still play recent games @ native LCD res of 1280x1024 (albeit with lower graphic settings)

I'm more impressed by the sound setup I have running on it though:-

SPDIF output on nForce2, going to
Audio Alchemy "DAC-In-The-Box" external Digital to Analogue Converter, going to
Cambridge Audio A5 amplifier, going to
Wharfedale Diamond 8.4 floorstanders

It sounds REALLY sweet. I also have a custom built powered subwoofer using a down-facing, ported 96 litre birch-faced ply enclosure, 12" 650W RMS Adire Audio "Shiva" sub (high quality, large x-max) and Detonator DT300 amplifier. It's not so much the amount of air it moves (which is a lot, incidentally), but the depth and smoothness of delivery - it really adds a huge amount of presence and can hit ridiculously deep notes. Comparing to a commercially bought sub, you'd have to spend around a grand to achieve the same sort of quality. I can plug the port for a tighter sound, or leave it open to unleash heavier, more rugged bass. With all that said, I can't currently use it as I'm back living with my parents for the first time in 6 years :(

But anyway, those Core 2 Duos look so damn good, I was never really "wowed" by current tech until those arrived. May upgrade early next year if I have some spare cash.

I think overall ours is worse :( it's living proof that my mother should not be allowed to choose her own PC!

No decent gaming possible! We just about manage to play the Sims 2, and I'm getting very good at Theme Hospital :P
 
I still got a dual P3 450Mhz server here with 512MB ram. It's used as a gateway for my network and also as a FTP server but will be replacing it with a router at some point as FTP is rarely used these days.

ive got a lot of low spec pc's but theyre not ones I actually use for anything other than folding.

p3 450 @ 512mhz, dell 733 p3, sempron 2500+ @ 150fsb, dual p3 667, dual p3 733, dual p3 866, dual p3 1000 with the dual p3 866, 512meg rambus acting as my webserver.

the p3 450 is currently off so is the dual 733 and 667 due to high electric bills.

Before my laptop (2 weeks ago) i was happy with an AMD Athlon 2800, 512mb Ram, 9800 Pro..

My upgrade path is every four years.
I went from a Barton 2800 @ 2.1ghz, NF7-s rev2, 1gb kingston hyperx pc3500 & a 9800pro.
To,
E6600,p5w dh,2gb gskill HZ pc6400 & a HIS X1900XT.
The performance difference is incredible cost me 975 notes for the upgrade ( add SATA dvdrw & SATA seagate 320gb hd)
That was 2 months ago if i bought the same componants now it would cost me over a grand!
I can remember it taking an hour plus to convert a file to dvd format, this systems does it in 20 minutes or less. :)
Above all, well worth the upgrade! (after i RMA'd back a faulty HIS X1900XT)
& if a 8800 was available i would have bought one, but as i have a 2 month old x1900 i'll have to wait for the later part of next year now... Unless i win that 120 million lottery tonight :rolleyes:

As I'm nowhere near a hardcore gamer this setup is doing fine for me. It does everything I need and has plenty left over after that. I may even have a go at carrying it over to Windows Vista once the majority of people are upgrading :)
 
AMD XP2500, generic 1GB ram, 9500Pro ATi graphics card. I very nearly upgraded recently but couldn't justify the cost as all I do is browse the web and download. PC gaming doesn't appeal to me anymore, mostly due to my arthritis in my hands.
