Anyone Not Running Super Fast Systems??

Currently running

-P4 630 @ 3ghz
-Gigabyte 8I915
-2Gb OZC DDR Platinum
-X1900XTX (Recent Upgrade from 6600GT)

To be honest this computer does all that i ask it to, the GFX upgrade has helped lots, was going to keep it until it dies but i have been offered £300 for it with the old GFX card so Im going to cash in now while I can and go C2D at the end of this month. Should be able to get a sweet setup for an extra £500.

amd 4000
2gig of ram
256mb x850xtpe
now i think about it every game m playing i can play maxxed out. bf2142 being one of them, i doubt i will upgrade for a bit

Hi all,

Is it just me who is not running the latest and greatest? Everyone on here seems to be running 8800 systems with Core Duo.

Im happily running a DFI EXPERT with 3000+ Winnie cpu 1800xt. It runs really fast, I do all my work on it and all games run without problems.

Could you lot (not running super PC's)ever justify the cost of some of the recent components?

To me it seems madness.

I'm on a 3.0GHZ here, it'd definitely have a 8800, Conroe ++ if I had the money :)

I wouldn't say my PC is "super", but processing power is a must when doing statistical work. My current CPU is a P4D 805 Dual core @3.6Ghz and it still takes around 30-40 minutes to fit ARIMA(1,28,1) models on a data set of around 9000 entries. Wouldn't mind cutting that down a littel! I was quite tempted by a dual dual core setup with 4GB of RAM. But I'm also tempted by a Macbook Pro... decisions decisions!

Im running

AMD 64 3500+ Newcastle (very first 939 chips)
Asrock 939S56-M
1GB OCZ PC3200
ATI X800 GTO² (o/c to X850)
120GB Hard Drive (need more space!)

Can run most games at full whack but newer games struggle (apart from nfs carbon) and i cant even have call of duty 2 on decent settings and thats over a year old now!

Would like to upgrade but im waiting till dx10 cards get in the £150 area. Could be a while!

I'm loving all these posts claiming their machine isn't "super fast".

I'm on:

Intel Pentium 4 2.8GHz > Running at 3.1GHz
1GB Corsair XMS 3200 DDR
Asus 9800XT 256MB

Which doesn't even come close to a few of the posts above me. Fortunately, I've moved away from PC gaming at the moment to the Xbox 360. My PC still chews it's way through Live for Speed so for now, it's as good as I need it to be.

Sometime next year, I will do a full upgrade to a Core 2 Duo spec machine and no doubt that will last me several years also.

I'm on

P4 3.4 Prescott
2Gb PC3200 DDR (4x512)
MSI 7900 GTO (recent upgrade from a X700 SE)

I mainly use mine for gaming and it has no problems running BF2 maxed out which is all i need.

I'm still hankering after a C2D though as I can't overclock my current rig due to the mobo being **** (7900 GTO running at GTX speed though :D ).

I used to have a god-aweful system that had lasted many many years and eventually didn't like playing the games I liked/wanted to play.

Now I can, at the resolution I need with everything maxed out.
Took a while but I got there, no more pc bits for another..... 3 years? :)

I upgraded from an xp2200+, 512 ddr, 9800 pro and gigabyte ga7vax to the spec in my sig, but I can justify this as I needed a much better computer for uni work, such as adobe after effects and 3dsmax as the current system wasn't cutting it. had it been that it was doing everything I needed I probably wouldn't have upgraded :)

The problem with upgrading your kit all the time is (well for me anyway) is primarily the cost (as I am a student) but also, the fact that its difficult to know when to upgrade, as something new always comes out, but then I guess if you keep waiting for the newest thing you will never upgrade

My current home pc has recently taken a massive downgrade for the simple reason I never used it.

I am now running:

Celeron D 356 (512k cache) 3.33ghz @4.3ghz (can't help but tweak)
1gb PC3200 memory
Leadtek 7600GT.

Some may laugh at the celeron but for £42 (£50 inc del) its brilliant. The extra cache over lower celerys really helps.

Does everything I want it to. (BF2/BF2142 maxed out @ 1280x1024).

i have sold the rig in my old sig  meh, i only ever play HL2, CS:S, C&C and Guild Wars... i managed to get £1600 for the lot :D i just wanted to downgrade a bit because i dont take full advantage of it and needed some extra money.

anyway, i now have:
AMD Athlon 64 3000+ w/ Akasa AK-859 heatsink
1GB of PC3200 cheapo ram
DFI Lanparty UT mobo
BFG 7600 GS
80GB Maxtor DiamondMax
Sony DVD Rom (didnt see the point in having a writer)
Corsair 520W PSU
19" widescreen belinea

i finally got myself an Akasa Eclipse and got some 120mm ambers for it, and i hardly hear the thing now :D just the maxtor crunching around

to be honest, i hardly notice a difference between this and my old rig in terms of performance in the games i play :)

I gave a thought to going down the 8800 GTX route. However, my system is currently running both Neverwinter Nights 2 and Company of Heroes at very decent speeds... so I'm holding back for the next 6-8 months.

I'm planning a new build this time next year, so I'll go for the full quad core/8800GTX at that point.

The pc in my room that i mostly use is a Opteron oc'd @ 3ghz on an Asrock Board, 1 GB of Geil memory and a 7900gs graphics card. And it does me fine!! Would i go out and spend 3 grand on the super fast pc's ocuk are selling if i had the money lying around right now... in a word 'no' ! :)

system in sig, i love upgrading - however - its only for the little thrill of "oh theres something new in the post!! yay" i really have little need for any more power - i barley play any games and those i do i can play or more than respectible settings :)

I'm running athlon xp 3200+, ati 800xl, and 1gb ram. Been thinking of upgrading for ages but the 360 is keeping me busy at the moment. I'll probably upgrade my whole rig next year once Crysis and other DX10 stuff is on the scene.

Im running,

Pentium D 3.4GHz
ABIT AB9
2 Gig Corsair ddr2 667
7900 GTO
250 Gig WD
Pioneer 111d

BF2 full settings runs sweet, cant wait for Test Drive Unlimited, maybe with Logitech G25  and also Armed Assult

Do it. I'm in Live for Speed heaven with my Saitek R220... best £30 ever spent.

I don't run a super fast system I tend to stay midrange and only dream about high end!

AMD 64 @ 2.6
7600 GT
Asus SLI-SE
1 G Memory
Raptors in RAID

So I might pop another 7600 GT in at christmas.

I wouldn't class mine as fast, i'm running the following spec:

Shuttle XPC SN25P
AMD 64 3000+
1GB ram
Nvidia 6800GT
80GB hard drive

At standard speeds and with standard air cooling.

I'm not going to upgrade this one for a few years yet, it does the job i need it for and i dont need the extra power duel core can give me.

My current pc

P4 3.2Ghz
8KNXP Ultra 64
now 2GB Patriot, was 1GB Corsair XL Pro
two 36gb raptors raid 0 (havent got round to using my 15k scsi drives)
DVD-ROM & CDRW
X800XT PE
250GB WD Storage

Plays most things, however starting to struggle at 1680x1050
