Have just bought an 8800gts to replace my 8800gs and plan on using it as a dedicated physix card. Has anyone noticed a performance increase by using a dedicated physix card. I plan on doing some benchmarks later on or tomorrow as i might be transferring my rig from 2 cases in to one case depends on the out come of this post. Thanks steve

In PhysX enabled games yes you will see a boost.

I run a GTX260 + 9500GT PhysX.

Mirrors Edge and Cryostasis really benefit from a dedicated card (even a low power one like the 9500GT i'm using).

Thanks. I have crysis amd farcry to benchmark amd see the difference and ut 3 to benchmark are there any patches i need for any of these games amd also are there any other downloadable demo's of other games that use physix that i could use to compare performance results ? Will post results either later on tonight or later tomorrow . Thanks steve

Neither Crysis or Farcry will benefit from a physx card.

UT3 will have some benefit, but that game flys without a dedicated card anyway.

Ok my bad with those two games, so what downloadable demo's can i benchmark to compare with amd without the physix's card ?

How would i benchmark that game will see if i can pick a copy up on my way home tonight . Thanks steve

I just bunged int a cheep 9500GT, you can pick them up for like £35, I needed a backup card anyway, so now it serves two purposes and doesn't just have to sit on a shelf when i'm not using it.

Lol thats cheap as chips :D when i got the 8800 512 and had the gs was spare it was either sell it or use it as a physix card and since i would only get 30 for it i thought i might as well keep it amd use it dr badaboom and physix. Thanks for the link will download amd give it a try as it looks like a gd game to have a go on once i completed mass effect (currently loving the game right now )

A physx card is faster but I dont see why anyone would need one. For current games the GPU is fast enough at PhysX. Plus some of the newer GPU PhysX games do not work with the standalone card.

Am playing Cryostasis atm. Iirc you can stick in an nvidia card to provide physics even when, like myself, using an ati card. Would the 9500 be the minimum or could you go even lower like a 9400?

Lol whats the name of this forum and the people it is aimed at ? Yes u got it pc enthuseist so guess it dont matter if it works on many games right now it just means we are getting ready for when it is widely available lol not being rude just some people's responses to enthusiest's questions make me smile on a site that is geared for that market lol its not pxwxrld forums lol :D .

8600GT is the lowest card that gives a boost.

9500GT is a fair bit faster than an 8600GT and still dirt cheep, while also not needing external power.

The 8800GS/9600GSO are prolly the 'top end' card you would need to max out your physX boosting power.
