Anyone on BE internet, Want to change my router

I am on BE internet, I have the thompson router and its pretty poor.

Can i change the router easily or is like sky where they restrict you doing so?

I have static IP so I need to take down all this info then enter into the new router or will it detect?

The router will pause after some time and dropout connection. Does this in games and just online browsing/downloading.

My phone can not connect to the router 100% of the time, signal is very weak. 1 bar on iphone just the room next to the router.

Its a poor router from every angle at the moment.
