Now this could be 100% related to my machine, but I caught this by chance and it could be affecting others without them realising it
Whilst transfering some files around via FTP and Filezilla earlier I noticed the transfer speed was erratic (6MB-20MB) and the green light highlighting network activity was all over the place. Following a few reboots of various equipment and a bit of headscratching, I realised this seemed to be tied in to whenever I was playing audio of any kind, regardless of the source. After a bit more fiddling around to see if this was related to an audio driver setting but nope no change, erratic transfers whenever sound was playing.
One Realtek GBE driver update to the current build, and issues resolved, sitting here listening to music, solid transferral and my transfer rate is back up to the usual 20-30MB.
If some simple sound was enough to knock the old drivers that badly, I don't want to know what it could be doing to network traffic during online games etc so probably worth an update!
