A mate of mine had his PS3 YLOD a few months back and bought another. Then he got hold of a PDF with instructions on how to fix it and he got it working again. I now have said instructions for opening up the PS3 and I'm thinking of doing it just to give it a damn good clean out of dust.

Anyone tried this? Run into any problems? Did it make your PS3 quieter?

i actually repair ps3's and xbox's from the yellow light of death and red ring of death with near enough 95% success rate :)

i WARN you in advance there are a lot of screws and fiddly bits of plastic that can get lost when opening it up, plus they're are several plastic mountains that need to be removed as well as ribbon cables and wires to get to the actual area where the main ps3 fan is located :)

once you do that though its just a matter of getting an old paintbrush or something and getting rid of the dust :D

Could you not just blast some compressed air into the vents?

I would have thought that this is the most sensible solution and is definitely what I would do.

With regards to opening cases etc, the playstation isn't malfunctioning or broken is it?

Remember, if it aint broke, don't fix it.
