What have been your impressions with both platforms when it comes to general use and gaming?

Does one feel smoother than the other? (I know a lot say hyper threading etc is pointless for gaming but I always found that some games just felt smoother with it)

Depends on the game tbh, with sli/xfire some games do feel smoother with an i7. Crysis 3 and bf3/4 being ones of note. Currently have a 4790k setup but have a 5820k based X99 setup on the way. But both being i7 ht chips performance will be very similar. One way to test is to run a game with ht on then off to see if there's any difference.

Bf4 is probably my most played game, it will be interesting to see how it compared on the 5820k to the 4790k. The latter I've used with sli 780's and now a single 980ti.

I'm doubting too many people were crazy enough to jump from a 5820K to a 6700K (or even 4790K to a 5820K), never mind finding people who have both processors for direct comparisons of real life use/gaming.

Lol, I bought the X99 setup on a whim, fancied trying one tbh. I'll likely sell the 4790k setup to fund the purchase of a new monitor.

Lol, I actually thought you had an X99 setup last year back when I was playing BF4 with you guys.

Think I had a 4770k about a year ago. Previous to that a 3770k. Only X series prior to that were a pair of Bloomfield systems. Still have the 930 based one. But its rarely used now.

I have yes, i was waiting on a set of 2011 bracket screws for my k2 cooler. Theese finally arrived today so hopefully be able to get everything put together soon. Quite busy at work at the moment so getting time to complete the build is a bit of an issue.
