As per title really, mate has tasked me with building him a pc to run Flight Simulator but I have no experience whatsoever with said games.
The 'spec-me' thread is in General Hardware incidentally.
Query is what joysticks do you guys use/recommend. He reckons on getting some for like £100 but that seems a tad steep.

Any thoughts?

Microsoft Force Feedback 2 - only available second hand but is the best joystick period. Accuracy, great FF, next to no deadzone, smooth centre -its got the lot. Prices range £30-100 depending on condition.

I've played FS since 98. And currently playing a lot of MS Flight.

I use a crazy old Logitech Wingman 3D Pro from like 7 years ago because I've never bothered to change it...

I have to agree, I've had mine about 8 years now and still going strong. Works great in MS Flight, FSX, Wings of prey, BF2/3 and rise of flight.

It's such a shame MS stopped making it :(

Man I miss this joystick! I now have a Saitek ST290. Seriously naff by comparison!

I use a Saitek X-52 Pro, once you try HOTAS you'll wonder how youi coped without, however it is pricey. Get the non pro version imo as the MFD isnt greatly useful and doesnt work correctly with windows 7, plus saves some money.

+1 if youre going to be flying the throttle makes a big difference. And dont forget the £140 on a trackir. Go for it and never look back. metaphorically. Trackir lets you look back obviously, with just a twitch of your head, important to see the hun coming out of the sun... im off to play wwiiol.

Completely agree about importance of trackIR! It is much better to buy a so-so joystick like £20 Saitek Aviator and spend £50 on trackIr (second hand) than to spend 70£ on a better joystick like Saitek X52 and no trackIR IMHO. TrackIr completely transforms flying games.

TrackIR is some of the best money I have spent. I can't do a FS without it, it is why I don't play an awful lot of flight.

I have a set of Saitek X-52 Pro also a set of cougar.s but finally settled on ch setup with ruder pedals but later in the year I will maybe mod the cougars with FSSB or FCC3 I can not help myself I just keep trying different Hotas set ups :D

But I must say happy with the ch gear and track ir.

I fly Falcon bms and loving it.

Edit: I have a saitek cyborg 3d gold also had it many years and still a good stick.
