I can't get it to run anymore now im on xp which is a shame, anyone managed to get it working?

I thought it was a great game in its day, it did have a low resolution even for its time but it was quite a lot of fun, it used a weird voxel engine that gave it smooth terrain, the sounds and music were quite good and atmospheric.

I remember there was going to be a second game which was in development but it got cancelled sadly.

I don't know why but for some reason I can't get it out of my head that Pariah is in someway a spiritual sequel or at least similar game to Outcast. Haven't played either game so I'm probably talking out of my arse :)

Outcast I think was most famous for using (Novalogic's?) voxel engine which doesn't support 3d acceleration, rather than it's gaming qualities.

Outcast was a great game. I don't think Pariah is related in any way (wasn't Pariah just a pretty standard FPS?). The voxel engine wasn't too bad if you ask me, kind of pixelated at times but there was a good amount of detail in the characters and landscapes. But I really enjoyed that game. A hidden gem.

Great game, would look ace if redone on a decent engine. The voxels gave it a nice organic look for the time, and I remember the water looked amazing. Lots of nice gadgets to play with ingame too. And yes, the music and sound were really well done.

outcast was one of the most underated games of all time! I've got it somewhere, i'll dig it out and try n get it running. maybe my pc will be able to handle those voxels now :p

Yeah definitely underrated for its time, the engine really did give a nice organic look to the landscapes, the resolution was pretty terrible though but i guess thats because of the lack of acceleration, i made a simple tweak for higher res but it was horribly slow, im sure my pc could handle it now, wish i could get it to run. :p

Amazing music, gfx were ok for the time and can be modded via the .ini file the game installs to give higher res.

You need to get all the patches for this as the original UK retail version had a bugged installer which refused to run on a lot of CD/DVD drives.

The installer patch lets you install it properly then patch#2 allows the game to find the disc in the drive & run properly.

I've never had any problems getting it to run under XP.....i have got the rare DVD version and its one of the many Pc games i never got around to finishing...

Theres only a patch 3 now which did install fine but the game wouldn't load past the intro video.

If i do ever get it running i forgot exactly what the best way was to increase resolution?

By the sounds of it you just need to modify the .ini file. Shouldn't be hard, I'd just set the game resolution to 512x384, then quit, and search *.ini for the text string "384". I'd imagine it would be blatantly obvious what to change in notepad from there.
